These days with the economy down and gas prices up, many people are looking for ways to cut costs.  Luxury items are the first to go; among those is the annual vacation.  The trend today is moving toward what has become known as the “staycation.”  Couples and families are looking for fun things to do closer to home, where they can drive and maybe do a few day or weekend trips throughout the year.  This saves money by not using air travel and limiting the number of hotel nights needed as well.

Our location in the greater Evansville area, offers many opportunities to enjoy attractions and activities within a days drive.  Passport to Adventure’s Wine-Oh! Tours features tours to some of these areas, including the Shawnee Hills and Southern Illinois wine trails in Illinois, the many wineries of Indiana, shopping trips to the shoe “mecca,” Zappos near Louisville,  Kentucky’s Bourbon trail and the Patoka Lake wine cruise to name a few.

The southern half of Indiana alone has much to offer.  The wine region begins just one hours’ drive east of Evansville and runs through some of Indiana’s most beautiful countryside.   In springtime the Azalea Path in Hazelton, Ind. is at its peak.   In autumn take a drive through Brown County to see the foliage, covered bridges, shopping, festivals and more.

The wine trails of Illinois are surrounded by scenic wonders and parkland, such as the Shawnee National Forest, the nearby Giant City State Park and Garden of the Gods.

Louisville, Kentucky has much to offer besides the annual Kentucky Derby horse race spectacular.  You may choose to have lunch or dinner on a riverboat cruise, enjoy restaurants and nightlife at the Fourth Street Live complex downtown, enjoy shopping, theatre or visit one of the many museums.

There are too many more for me to mention here, but for more information or to plan a trip you may contact me at 812-453-1771.
